RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY
Reconstructive surgery is a surgical discipline focused on rebuilding or restoring the form and function of body parts that are abnormal due to injury, disease, or congenital defects. It typically involves surgical procedures performed on abnormal body parts to improve function and restore a more normal appearance.
Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia has been performing major reconstructive surgeries since 1997. These surgeries encompass various indications such as facial reconstruction for cancers and trauma, trunk or body reconstruction for breast cancer and pressure sores, and limb reconstruction for trauma and cancer ablation. There is strong collaboration among local experts at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Therefore, with a specially designated center, this fragmented work can be consolidated, providing excellent service. HUSM is the only teaching hospital consistently housing plastic and reconstructive surgeons, neurosurgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, and orthopedic tumor surgeons in the country.
Hospital USM was one of the first local university centers recognized by the Ministry of Health for training plastic and reconstructive surgeons.
