DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (RECONSTRUCTIVE SCIENCE)
Introduction
The Doctor of Philosophy (Reconstructive Science) is a research-based postgraduate programme offered by the Department of Plastic Surgery & Reconstructive Sciences, School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
The programme aims to develop highly skilled researchers with advanced scientific knowledge, strong research competencies and the ability to conduct independent and innovative research in reconstructive sciences. Candidates are encouraged to explore emerging areas of research that contribute to scientific discoveries, clinical advancements and translational applications.
Throughout the programme, candidates are required to undertake an original research project and submit a doctoral thesis for examination in accordance with the University's academic requirements.
Graduates are well prepared to pursue careers in academia, research institutions, healthcare and biomedical industries, contributing to the advancement of reconstructive sciences through research, innovation and scientific collaboration at national and international levels.
Admission requirement
Applicants should possess the following:
- A Master's degree in research mode; or
- A Master’s degree in related area with CGPA 3.00/4; or
- A Master’s degree in related area with CGPA 2.50-2.99/4 with additional requirements; or
- Bachelor’s degree in related area with minimum CGPA 3.67/4 (fast-track to PhD)
Durations
Applications are throughout the year, students are encourage to align with the USM academic calendar which begins in September each year.
- Full-time: Min 4 semesters / Max 10 semesters
- Part-time: Min 6 semesters / Max 15 semesters
