WARDS

Psychiatry ward was established in 1985 and separated into male and female wards in 1999. Wards for psychiatry patients are located at fifth floor, hospital building. The ward are divided into:
  • Female ward - 5 Utara (5U)
  • Male ward - 5 Selatan (5S)
 
Psychiatric Ward adopts voluntary admission policies that is whether patients come voluntarily or requested from family or patients' caregiver. Patients are warded through the Emergency & Accident Department, Family Treatment Clinic, Psychiatric Specialist Clinic, transfer from other ward at HUSM (Case of Liason) or by appointment to receive maintenance procedure electroconvulsive therapy.
 
The duration of the patient getting treatment in the psychiatric ward is dependent on their condition and illness, the usual stay is between 2 to 6 weeks. When a patient's mental state is relatively stable, the patient will be discharged with the family and if necessary the patient is required to come to the hospital to undergo a daily rehabilitation program in preparation to enable the patient to function optimally and be self-reliant in the community.
 
Psychiatric Ward is under the responsibility of the Head of Psychiatric Department, Prof. Madya Dr. Asrenee binti Ab Razak. 5U and 5S wards are under supervision by sister in charge.
 
5 Utara : capacity of 18 beds. 
5 Selatan: capacity of 18 beds.
