DOCTOR OF MEDICINE (MD) PROGRAMME
The Ophthalmology posting is designed for fourth-year medical students to advance their understanding in Ophthalmology, visual sciences and its clinical application. Students are attached to our department for 3 weeks. During these three weeks, students are exposed to clinical work which includes visits to the wards and operating theatre.
On the first day, students are taught on basic clinical skills which includes history taking, visual and ocular examination techniques as well as hands on experience on using the fundoscopy. Students will be divided into small groups to ensure effective and a conducive teaching learning environment.
Our teaching program includes seven tutorials highlighting key ophthalmology topics. The curriculum also includes understanding bioethics, evidence-based medicine practice, videos on approaching cataract and assess to community outreach programs. Students will also gain experience being on-call with our team and expose to real ophthalmology emergency situations.
The clinical teachings will be conducted at the Ophthalmology Clinic, Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. At the end of the posting, an assessment will be held for all students to reflect their understanding of the overall learning outcome of this posting.
