BURN CARE & SURGERY/

BURN UNIT (UNIT RAWATAN KEBAKARAN)

rsz 1burn2 urk Picture4

Burn injuries are profoundly traumatic and painful events, often leaving survivors scarred for life. Issues with burn wounds and scar contractures necessitate highly specialized multidisciplinary care from reconstructive surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers. The recovery period is lengthy, and treatment costs are substantial, highlighting the critical need for a comprehensive reconstructive and burn facility.

The Burn Unit at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia was established on May 1, 2000, and became fully operational on September 9, 2004. Its primary objective is to deliver optimal and comprehensive treatment to burn patients, aiming to restore them to their highest functional levels physically, psychologically, socially, and occupationally in daily life.

The Burn Unit at Hospital USM has become a referral center for critical patients requiring comprehensive and specialized treatment from the East Coast states. Treatment modalities include critical care for trauma and burn patients, nutrition and rehabilitation programs, hydrotherapy, surgical management (such as escharotomy, tangential excision, skin grafting, etc.), and medication management.

This unit also serves as an educational and research training center for medical professionals and healthcare practitioners seeking to enhance their expertise and knowledge in burn wound treatment.
