Elective course is part of the educational programme for undergraduate medical studies at School of Medical Sciences, USM. The aim is to provide opportunities for students, both locally and internationally to develop theirs clinical skills and explore their interests while strengthening their general medical knowledge.

In addition, this elective program also serves to expose students to the differences in culture, lifestyle and facilities locally and provide students with valuable experiences in humanitarian and community work. Students are also encouraged to participate in scientific research.

I hope all students will use this golden opportunity to improve their medical knowledge while developing their self-esteem, interests and personal communications with local staffs and local community. We hope that via this program, we able to create an independent and knowledgeable medical practitioners who will eventually lead their communities in the coming years.

The clinical elective program is a program conducted as part of undergraduate medical studies, at the School of Medical Sciences, USM in order to produce a highly efficient and multitalented graduates, both academically and spiritually.

This program will help students to strengthen their medical knowledge and practices, so that they can function as productive medical practitioners in the community in the near future. In addition, this program also provides exposure to students, especially to the outside world, where they can experiences differences in human cultures, practices and social aspects of living.

The student will able to engage with local communities, learning the effective means of communication, as well as polishing their scientific capabilities, while doing their elective attachment. This is an important mission by USM in order to produce a high quality and reputable medical graduates.

We at the Elective Secretariat office are ready to give our full assistance and advice to any students, either local or international students in order to ensure all students had a meaningful and effective elective attachment, either at School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Health Campus, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, Malaysia or at other universities or hospitals worldwide.
