DRESS REGULATON FOR MEDICAL SCIENCE STUDENTS
The following dress regulation for medical students of the School of
Medical Sciences is effective from the 1985/86 session.
This dress regulation is defined in a general way based on the following characteristics:-
- Safety at the laboratory and hospital
- Islamic value and culture
- Professional requirements
A. ATTIRE WHILE ATTENDING LECTURES AND TUTORIALS
Men’s Attire
- White coat should be wear at all times during clinical activities (ward round, Clinic)
- Shirts with collars (T-shirts are not allowed)
- Long pants (Jeans are not allowed)
- Shoes and socks (Slippers, sandals and sports shoes are not allowed)
- Cloaks are not allowed
- Name tag should be worn at all times
Women’s Attire
- White coat should be wear at all times during clinical activities (ward round, Clinic)
- T-shirts and jean are not allowed
- The dress length should not exceed the ankle but should be below the knee
- Low-cut dresses are not allowed
- Sleeveless dresses are not allowed
- Tight skirts with slits are not allowed
- Veils are not allowed
- Wearing of ornaments such a earring, necklace, bracelet etc. should be minimized and preferably avoided altogether
- Name tag should be worn and affixed to the dress
- Sports shoes are not allowed
B. ATTIRE WHILE IN HOSPITAL
Apart from the above conditions, students are to observe the following:-
- White coat with the name tag on should be wear at all times during clinical activities.
C. GENERAL REGULATION FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN
- The dress code that is required at certain places by the Hospital’s authority should be fully observed;
- Exposed hair should be kept short and neat;
- Fingernails should always be short and clean
- Clothes should always be clean and properly worn;
- Any other items which are in vogue but do not confirm to normal professional expectations would not be allowed e.g. earring for men.
