WELCOME NOTES
Welcome to the Department of Physiology, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
The Department of Physiology was established shortly after the incorporation of the School of Medical Sciences in 1979. As part of the leading medical school using a problem-based curriculum in Malaysia, we are responsible for teaching undergraduate students. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive education in human physiology, equipping our students with the knowledge and skills necessary for their future careers in medicine. Thus, the department is primarily responsible for teaching human physiology to undergraduate students and Master of Medicine (Surgical-based). Furthermore, our academic staff are also involved in other teaching-learning activities, particularly as facilitators in problem-based learning sessions and tutors in the Integrated Clinical Simulation Centre (i-CSC).
In addition, our academic staff are also involved in research, supervising graduate students (MSc and Ph.D), and administrative duties. Our research encompasses a wide range of both fundamental and applied physiology, utilising various animal models of disease. Human studies are also extensively researched within the department.
Currently, the department has eleven academic staff members. Besides, we have four technologists, and one science officer who are involved in research and physiology practicals. There are two supporting staff members responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the department.
We invite you to explore our website to learn more about our programs, research and department activities, and postgraduate students.
