WELCOME TO COMMUNITY AND FAMILY CASE STUDY (CFCS)

Assalamualaikum and greetings,

Community and Family Case Study (CFCS) or Program Kajian Komuniti dan Kes Keluarga (KKKK) is a community-based academic program for medical students at the School of Medical Sciences, USM. It comprises two courses: GMT407 (Community Residency) for Year 3 students and GMT307 (Patient Care) for Year 4 students. This program has been in place since the establishment of the School of Medical Sciences, USM in the early 1980s.

This academic structure is aligned with the Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society Programme (SULAM) proposed by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. In GMT407, students are required to engage with the community, starting from scratch by gathering socioeconomic profiles and conducting a community diagnosis for their intervention projects. This enhances students' communication skills while applying their medical knowledge. In GMT307, students select a patient with a chronic disease for ongoing follow-up, focusing on planning and innovating programs to improve the patient's quality of life rather than treating the disease itself.

We at the CFCS Secretariat are pleased to have received positive feedback from the communities and stakeholders upon completing the programs. We are also grateful for the unwavering support provided by USM's top management, fellow lecturers, previous program coordinators (formerly known as Programme Chairmen), and other community leaders in fulfilling our responsibilities.

Through this website, we cordially invite all readers to explore our activities, and we welcome constructive feedback to enhance our program further. For those aspiring to join the medical profession, we hope CFCS will inspire them to become compassionate doctors who are friendly to both community and patients in the future.
