Basic Life Support (BLS) Course for Postgraduate Students
Date: 15 February 2026
Category: Training & Workshop Programmes | Postgraduate Education | Clinical Skills
The Integrated Clinical Simulation Centre (i‑CSC) successfully organised a Basic Life Support (BLS) Course on 15 February 2026, conducted in collaboration with the Emergency Medicine Department, Family Medicine Department, and USAINS. This programme was designed to strengthen emergency response competency among postgraduate trainees, ensuring they are well‑equipped with the essential skills required during life‑threatening situations.
This comprehensive course covered all core components of BLS according to current clinical practice standards. Participants underwent structured theoretical teaching followed by intensive hands‑on sessions using high‑fidelity simulation manikins to strengthen practical performance.
Key Course Components:
- Early recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of emergency response
- High‑quality adult CPR (compression depth, rate, recoil)
- AED application and safe operation
- Adult and infant choking management
- Team communication and effective coordination
- Practical demonstrations with real‑time instructor feedback
The programme also included live practical stations where participants rotated between CPR, AED, and choking modules. Each participant completed an individual practical assessment to demonstrate competence in core BLS skills.
At the end of the course, participants who fulfilled the required competencies received BLS certification valid for two (2) years, aligning with professional standards. This ensures trainees remain up‑to‑date and confident in their ability to respond promptly and safely in emergency situations.
This collaborative programme highlights i‑CSC’s commitment to promoting simulation‑based training, interdepartmental cooperation, and patient‑centred safety initiatives within postgraduate medical education.
