Introduction to Microsurgery Programme
The Hand & Microsurgery Unit, Department of Orthopaedics, Universiti Sains Malaysia, in collaboration with the Integrated Clinical Simulation Centre (i‑CSC), successfully conducted an “Introduction to Microsurgery” programme on 14 May 2026.
The programme provided participants with fundamental exposure to microsurgical techniques through structured teaching and hands‑on practice sessions. Participants were introduced to the use of operating microscopes, micro‑instruments, and fine tissue handling techniques required in precision‑based surgical procedures.
During the training, participants engaged in supervised practical sessions where they performed basic microsurgical suturing and coordination exercises under magnification. The use of simulation‑based setups allowed learners to practise repeatedly in a controlled environment while receiving guidance from experienced facilitators.
The session also emphasized key principles of microsurgery, including:
- Fine motor coordination and hand‑eye precision
- Proper use of microsurgical instruments
- Ergonomics and posture during microscope use
- Handling delicate tissues under magnification
Facilitators from the Department of Orthopaedics provided demonstrations and close supervision throughout the session, ensuring that participants developed foundational skills essential for future surgical training.
This programme reflects i‑CSC’s continued commitment to advancing simulation‑based clinical education and supporting specialised skill development in both undergraduate and postgraduate training.
