BASIC PAEDIATRIC ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY WORKSHOP 2026 ENHANCES CLINICAL COMPETENCY IN CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE ASSESSMENT
KUBANG KERIAN, KELANTAN, 27 June 2026 – The Paediatric Cardiology Unit, in collaboration with Kelab Pediatrik Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia (HPUSM), successfully organised the Basic Paediatric Echocardiography Workshop 2026 on 26 and 27 June 2026 at the Bangunan Pra-Klinikal dan Sains Perubatan (BPSP), Hospital Pakar Universiti Sains Malaysia (HPUSM).
The two-day workshop was designed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of healthcare professionals in performing and interpreting basic paediatric echocardiography, with particular emphasis on the early recognition and assessment of congenital heart diseases.
Participants attended a series of lectures covering the segmental approach in paediatric echocardiography, ultrasound physics, knobology, and the echocardiographic evaluation of common cyanotic and acyanotic congenital heart diseases. The programme also featured supervised hands-on sessions, allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting under the guidance of experienced faculty members.
The workshop was delivered by a distinguished panel of speakers comprising:
* Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Rizal Mohd Zain
* Professor Dr. Wan Pauzi Wan Ibrahim

Throughout the workshop, participants actively engaged in discussions and practical demonstrations, fostering an interactive learning environment while enhancing their competency and confidence in the use of echocardiography as an essential diagnostic tool in paediatric cardiology.
This initiative reflects HPUSM's ongoing commitment to advancing continuous medical education and strengthening clinical expertise among healthcare professionals. By equipping participants with fundamental echocardiographic knowledge and practical skills, the workshop supports HPUSM's mission to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and improve outcomes for children with congenital heart disease.
