Play Communication Workshop 2024
The Play Communication Workshop held on 19th October 2024, was organized by the Paediatric Palliative Team of USM in collaboration with the Pusat Pengajian Sains Perubatan at the Health Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia. The workshop aimed to enhance communication skills, particularly with children, through engaging and interactive activities.
The event brought together medical professionals from various fields, including Paediatricians, Family Medicine Specialists, Clinical Psychologists, Medical Officers, Nurses, Physiotherapists, and members of YOKUK (Yayasan Orang Kurang Upaya Kelantan).
A key highlight was the session on "Communication with Children," led by Dr. Lee Chee Chan, a Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Care from Hospital Tunku Azizah Kuala Lumpur. He shared effective strategies for interacting with young patients. Among the most engaging activities was the Button Games session, an interactive exercise designed to enhance communication through playful collaboration.
Participants also took part in a creative Drawing and Drawing Book session, offering a space to express ideas and emotions visually, fostering non-verbal communication skills. The workshop concluded with a hands-on Sand Play activity, aimed at encouraging imaginative interaction and non-verbal communication in a relaxed, tactile environment.
Overall, the workshop successfully blended play with learning, enabling participants to develop empathy, creativity, and enhanced communication skills in paediatric care.
