USM-Merican Community Health Program at Masjid Cherang Hangus, Bachok Kelantan
Health camp programs have become a crucial strategy for improving community health, especially in areas with limited access to specialized medical services. On July 27, 2024, a health camp was held at Masjid Cherang Hangus in Bachok, Kelantan, organized in collaboration with the Otorhinolaryngology Department of Universiti Sains Malaysia-Merican.
The primary goals of this program were to promote preventive healthcare, enhance health literacy, and improve overall community well-being, while also reducing barriers to specialized medical services in the field of Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT). The program targeted residents living near Masjid Cherang Hangus and was met with enthusiastic participation from individuals of all ages.
Services offered at the camp included direct ENT consultations and examinations, such as otoscopy, nasoendoscopy, laryngoscopy, hearing screenings, and assessments. The hearing assessments comprised pure tone audiometry and tympanometry.
By addressing common ENT issues such as hearing loss, allergic rhinitis and otitis externa, the camp helped prevent the progression of untreated conditions that could lead to more severe health problems. Early detection and treatment not only improve individual health outcomes but also contribute to reducing the overall burden of disease in the community.
The success of the health camp at Masjid Cherang Hangus extends beyond the immediate provision of medical services. The program has broader implications for health and well-being within the community.
