TRACHEOSTOMY MANAGEMENT COURSE
On 10th March 2024, the ORL-HNS department of Universiti Sains Malaysia successfully organized and achieved a notable milestone by hosting the Tracheostomy Management Course, led by Associate Prof. Dr. Hazama Mohamad, Dr. Azliana Aziz and their dedicated team. This event was designed to equip medical staff with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to effectively manage patients with tracheostomies. The training covered understanding the indications for tracheostomy, mastering tracheostomy care techniques, recognizing and managing potential complications, and ensuring patient safety. The course also aims to build confidence among healthcare providers, enabling them to deliver high-quality care and train others within their respective healthcare settings.
Report on the Intensive Management Tracheostomy Course
On 9th July, 21st July, 4th August, and 25st August 2024, the ORL-HNS Department of Universiti Sains Malaysia successfully conducted the Intensive Management Tracheostomy Course. This program, led by Associate Prof. Dr. Hazama, Dr. Azliana Aziz, Dr. Norsyamira Aida and their dedicated team, is part of the 'Trainer of Trainee' (TOT) initiative aimed at enhancing the expertise of staff nurses from various wards in managing tracheostomies.
The course was meticulously designed to cover critical aspects of tracheostomy management, including understanding the indications for tracheostomy, mastering care and maintenance techniques, and recognizing and managing potential complications. Emphasis was placed on ensuring patient safety throughout the course. This comprehensive approach aims to equip participants not only with the knowledge required for effective tracheostomy management but also with practical skills that can be directly applied in clinical settings.
As part of the ongoing program, each participant will be provided with a guideline book and is required to complete a logbook. These components are designed to ensure that theoretical knowledge is effectively translated into clinical practice, reinforcing the application of learned skills and promoting continuous improvement in patient care.
