“Bridging Borders in Medical Education: UNSOED–USM Collaborative Engagement”

Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, 3–4 November 2025 – The School of Medical Sciences (PPSP), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), welcomed a two-day official visit from a delegation representing Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (UNSOED), Indonesia. The delegation, comprising Dr. M.M. Rudi Prihatno, Dr. Muhamad Rifqy Setyanto, and Dr. Nenden Nursyamsi Agustina, aimed to strengthen academic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration between the two institutions.

PPSP extends its highest appreciation and gratitude to Professor Dr. Kamarul Aryffin bin Baharuddin, Dean of PPSP, for graciously officiating and participating in the entire programme alongside the PPSP community.

Special appreciation is also conveyed to Professor Dr. Aziah binti Daud, Deputy Dean of Industry, Community Engagement and Development (LIKP), for her guidance, commitment, and instrumental role in the planning, coordination, and successful execution of this visit. Both leaders represented PPSP with distinction, welcoming the UNSOED delegation and facilitating the discussions and engagements throughout the programme.

The official visit commenced on 3 November 2025, with the delegation arriving in Kota Bharu and being warmly received by PPSP representatives. They were then taken on a tour of key PPSP facilities before visiting SPICES USM, an educational exhibition space showcasing a collection of abnormal human organs used for teaching and research purposes. The visit provided the delegates with comprehensive insights into USM’s technologically enhanced and holistic medical education approach.

On the second day, 4 November 2025, the delegates participated in a strategic discussion session with PPSP’s academic leadership to explore future directions and collaborative opportunities between UNSOED and USM. In the afternoon, the delegation visited An NaHL, USM’s stingless bee honey research and development centre, to observe the university’s community engagement, research, and innovation activities.

Overall, the two-day visit successfully strengthened academic relations and opened wider opportunities for collaboration between PPSP USM and UNSOED, in line with USM’s commitment to enhancing international partnerships and fostering global academic excellence.
