SEMINAR "SECURING AND MANAGING EXTERNAL AND INDUSTRY COLLABORATIONS"

Kubang Kerian, Kelantan, 25 August 2025 – The School of Medical Sciences (PPSP), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through the Community, Industry Engagement and Development (LIKP) initiative, successfully organised a seminar titled "Securing and Managing External and Industry Collaborations: A Sharing Session." The event brought together nearly 50 participants, comprising lecturers and researchers, in an effort to foster meaningful engagement between academia and industry.

The highest appreciation is extended to Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Hafiz Hanafi from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine for his thought-provoking presentation, which offered valuable insights into strategies and effective approaches for building and managing industry collaborations. His session challenged participants to think critically about how industry involvement can serve as a catalyst in strengthening USM’s academic and research agendas, particularly in aligning with real-world demands.

Adding further depth to the seminar, Dr. Shazana Hilda Shamsuddin from the Department of Pathology delivered an equally impactful session focusing on the role of collaboration within the field of pathology. She highlighted its clinical implications and potential to directly benefit society through improved diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes. Her presentation underscored the necessity of interdisciplinary and cross-sector partnerships in driving medical advancements.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohd Zulkifli Mustafa from the Department of Neurosciences shared his unique research experience involving kelulut honey in collaboration with industry partners. His talk illustrated how such partnerships can propel innovation and expand the translational impact of scientific discoveries

The synergy of these three diverse perspectives provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the true potential of academia–industry collaborations. More than just theoretical discourse, the seminar was enriched with practical examples and real-world experiences, offering participants actionable takeaways.

This sharing session successfully served as a vital platform for bridging academic knowledge with industry needs, paving the way for more sustainable, relevant, and high-impact research development. It reflects USM’s continued commitment to fostering collaboration that not only advances science but also delivers tangible benefits to society.
