Inauguration of Community and Family Case Study Program for Year 3 Medical Students

PASIR PUTEH, KELANTAN– 30 July 2024 – The Community and Family Case Study Program (KKKK) for Year 3 medical students at the School of Medical Sciences (PPSP), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), was officially launched by Yang Berhormat Nor Sham bin Sulaiman, the State Assemblyman for Semerak, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. The inauguration took place at the Dewan Orang Ramai, Kompleks Penggawa Semerak, Pasir Puteh.

A total of 139 medical students participated in this program aimed at cultivating future medical professionals with a strong community orientation. The program is inspired by Malaysia’s ‘Service Learning’ initiative - University for Society (SULAM), implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT).

The program offers third-year Doctor of Medicine students from PPSP, USM, the opportunity to study community health determinants through research and placements in five mukims: Air Tawar, Kuala Semerak, Cherang Ruku, Dalam Rhu, and Telaga Papan. Students will plan and execute intervention projects to address identified health issues within the community. They will also engage in knowledge-sharing sessions on healthcare, disease prevention, and healthy living practices.

Participants will gain practical experience in handling real health cases and understanding the challenges faced by local communities. This hands-on experience aims to enhance their professional skills and raise community awareness about proper healthcare, disease prevention, and healthy living.


The program is expected to strengthen the relationship between USM and the local community, as well as open doors for future collaboration in community projects and research initiatives.
