The Integrated Clinical Simulation Centre (i‑CSC), Universiti Sains Malaysia, marked a significant milestone with the official launch of the Microsurgical Skills Training Centre (MiST) on 20 September 2026.

The launching ceremony was officiated by Professor Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Vice Chancellor of USM, highlighting the university's continuous commitment towards advancing healthcare education, clinical skills training, and innovation through simulation-based learning.

The establishment of MiST represents a major advancement in specialised surgical skills training at USM. The centre has been developed to provide a dedicated platform for teaching, learning, and skills development in microsurgery through a structured simulation-based approach. MiST is designed to support the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, microsuturing techniques, and the handling of delicate tissues under magnification, which are essential competencies in modern microsurgical practice.

The launch of MiST signifies another important achievement in strengthening simulation-based education at PPSP and reinforces USM's aspiration to provide state-of-the-art training facilities that support both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Through the establishment of MiST, i‑CSC aims to expand opportunities for healthcare professionals and trainees to gain early exposure to microsurgical techniques in a safe learning environment before progressing to clinical practice.

This new facility is expected to serve as a centre of excellence for microsurgical education, supporting training, skills enhancement, research, and future collaborations in specialised surgical disciplines.
