RHINOLOGY AND SKULL BASE SURGERY SUBSPECIALTY TRAINING PROGRAMME

To meet a growing national demand for experts in specialized treatment of sinus, allergy, and anterior skull base conditions, Universiti Sains Malaysia is launching a new Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery subspecialty training program. As a tertiary referral center providing complex surgical care with a dual mission of clinical service and research, USM is ideally positioned to train the next generation of clinician-scientists in this emerging field. However, a shortage of nationally registered subspecialists has impeded the establishment of unified standards of quality care. Through an intensive multi-year curriculum elevating both scholarly impact and procedural competence under seasoned faculty mentors, our program aims to increase fellowship-trained rhinology experts qualified for national subspecialist registration and equipped to disseminate best practices in patient care, research innovation, and medical education upon graduation. Our goal is producing leaders poised to shape the advancement of Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery across Malaysia.

Program Outcomes

  1. To produce rhinology and skull base surgeons who are competent, safe and can perform the procedures independently.
  2. The surgeons are recognized and registrable under National Specialist Registration (NSR) committee for subspecialty registration.
  3. The surgeons are able improve the quality and standard of ORL-HNS surgical care of patients.
