History

 

 

         Orthopaedic Unit established at Penang Hospital in year 1981 and started teaching medical student which made first posting name Dr. Zulmi Wan and then he are sent through SLAB scheme to Singapore. In year 1983, Orthopaedic Department transferred to Kubang Kerian and first department's head here is Dr. Michael Devas from England. The others at that time was Dr. Richard Southwood from Australia, Dr. Sudir Kumar (India) and Dr. Abd Wahab Ghani as trainee lecturer. In year 1985, Dr. Michael Devas moves to UK and Dr. Abd Wahab also follow him as learning extension and training. Due to, Dr. Zulmi Wan organizes as department chief before Dr. John Ananthem comes and take over duty of the head of department. In 1999, the Master of Orthopaedics Programme was introduced. Then a new era in Orthopaedic Department with master students arrival begin to start. In year 2003, start system units in Orthopaedic Department with Oncology Unit, Paeditric Unit, Spine Unit and Hand Unit. In year 2006 on the other hand, another unit has been added namely Arthroplasty Unit & Reconstructive Adult Joint Unit that later expanded become two unit and time that are same Trauma Unit and Sport Unit created.

 

 

 

Masters of Orthopaedics Programme started in 1999. The duration of the program has 4 academic years that divided into two parts. Part 1 was one year duration in which anatomy, physiology, pathology and bio-mechanics were covered. At the end of first year candicates were require
