Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing

VITEK® 2 System

The Department of Microbiology utilizes the VITEK 2 system for advanced antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), ensuring effective treatment strategies against infectious diseases. VITEK 2 provides rapid, accurate, and automated analysis of a microorganism’s susceptibility to various antibiotics.

The process involves inoculating the VITEK 2 cards with the microbial sample. These cards contain wells with different antibiotics at various concentrations. SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE

The Sustainability Committee of the Medical Microbiology and Parasitology Department was established on 25 February 2024 and is dedicated to fostering environmentally responsible practices and promoting sustainability within our academic and professional community. As stewards of scientific knowledge, we recognise our role in addressing the global challenges of environmental degradation and climate change.

Our committee is comprised of acaemic and non-academic staff as well as students who are passionate about integrating sustainable practices into our daily operations, research, and educational activities. We have organised several activities in the department to incalculate the sustainability practices in the department. These include the recycling programme, Eco Bag Warrior Challenge, and Earth Hour. 

The Sustainability Committee's primary responsibilities include:
