by Department of Haematology
MMA-CPD Point: 1
Short synopsis:
This clinicopathology conference (CPC) with the title “The invisible threat” involves 4 presenters from different departments within 1 hour. It is chaired by the Department of Hematology. The target participants are all clinicians and medical officers as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students and nurses. The objective of this CPC is to share knowledge and our experience when encountering blood donors with HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Syphilis. We wanted to share an awareness of the potential threat of blood products from blood donors. We also want to emphasize the importance of explaining the risk of transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs) to the patient before the patient consented to transfusion. This CPC includes 4 case presentations and the discussion mainly on the new research findings, clinical experiences, and approaches to preventing and managing TTIs.
