The Department of Pharmacology core activities include:

• Teaching and Learning activities for the undergraduate Medical Doctor (MD) Programme and post-graduate Master of Medicine (MMed) candidates. 
• Supervision of postgraduate Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and post-graduate Master of Medicine (MMed). 
• Medical Diagnostic Laboratory Service to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia. We provide qualitative testing and consultancy services for urine drugs of abuse as below:

• Morphine
• Cannabis
• Amphetamines
• Benzodiazepines
• Barbiturates
• Phencyclidines
• Paraquat 
• Organophosphate
• Mitragynine / ketum (This qualitative service detects presence of ketum in urine. However, it is not a routine test for HUSM, but can be requested as a paid service) 

• Research and Development:

• Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Physiology – experimental and clinical studies
• Analytical Pharmacology and Pharmacogenetics
• Natural Product research and Toxicology
• Social Research which includes rational drug use, drug compliance, and questionnaire/module development.
