Our department offers one of the best programme for postgraduate training in ophthalmology. Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) is initiated in 1997, the third university in Malaysia offering mixed module program in training ophthalmologist in Malaysia. Our main aim is to produce ophthalmologist with excellent clinical judgement, adequate surgical skill and well balanced personality. The examination is standardized under Malaysia Universities Conjoined Committee for Ophthalmology. Our program is recognizedby Malaysia Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education.
Currently, we also offer postgraduate degree by research in clinical ophthalmology. Our department is also in the process of initiating another postgraduate degree in visual science. Visual science is aimed in promoting fundamental and applied research in ophthalmology
A. Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology)
The programme is mixed-module, slightly similar structured from the earlier programmes in Universiti Malaya and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. However, being of the third generation has its own unique variations. Our programme offers a two year-in campus placement for distant learning (PJJ) candidates which puts them under direct supervision and allows them a better exposure and access to facilities available in the campus including medical library, computer aided laboratory, clinical skill center and highly acclaimed research backups. The post graduate teaching courses are run by both local as well as international faculty. Teaching staff strength since 2004 was at all time high of 7-9 lecturers or more.
The minimum candidature period is 4 years and maximum of 7years. The course is divided into three phases:

B. Research Mode
PhD & MSc (Clinical Ophthalmology)
The degrees of MSc (Clinical Ophthalmology) and PhD (Clinical Ophthalmology) involve research into a chosen area under the direction of at least two supervisors (principal and co-supervisor). Usually the research consists of practical laboratory studies, although some topics can involve theoretical study using computer technology, fieldwork, clinical observations or epidemiological and biostatistical techniques.
