MISSION & VISION

Mission

The Department of Pathology strives to be the best training centre for undergraduates, postgraduates, and higher specialist training. Our department aspires to be the most advanced and innovative centre in the field of clinical pathology and research in Malaysia, by utilizing the evidence based practice generated from the research outcome. We are committed to provide the excellent service in patient care.

Vision

To be the centre of excellent for teaching and training of future pathologists. To become the most advanced research centre in Malaysia.

INTRODUCTION

The department of pathology was established in 1983, along with the commencement of the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia.  It was a big department that provided, basic histo-and-cytopathology services, as well as hematology and blood-bank services.  Later, the laboratory expanded, providing special stain and immunohistochemical tests.  In 1991, a human genetic unit was developed.  However, in 1998, the haematology unit and human genetic unit became independent units and were upgraded into a department status, Department of Haematology & Transfusion Medicine, and Human Genome Center, respectively.

The department has a future plan in expanding its diagnostic services.  Apart from diagnostic services, the department also runs the Forensic Unit.  All of the lecturers in the department are actively involved in teaching of the undergraduates and postgraduates students.  In addition to that, many active researches are also in place.
